Alex Graham (cartoonist)
Alexander S. Graham (Partick, Glasgow, 2 March 1913 – 4 December 1991[1]) was a Scottish cartoonist who created the comic strip, Fred Basset.
Biography
He was educated at the Dumfries Academy.
Graham's best known creation, Fred Basset, is a comic strip about a male basset hound. The cartoon was published first in the Daily Mail on 8 July 1963.[2] It has since been syndicated around the world.[2]
Fred was published in the UK newspaper Daily Mail and more recently The Mail On Sunday from 1963 to the present.[3]
Alex Graham died on 3 December 1991 (aged 78).
