Afriana Carfania
Afriana Carfania (?–48 B.C.E.) was an Ancient Roman orator. She was active as a legal advocate, and represented herself and others in cases brought before the praetor.[1]
She is described as a Roman woman with great legal knowledge. There was nothing in Roman law which suggested that a woman could not be engaged as a legal representative in court, although this appears to have been uncommon. She had several successful cases, and was known for her skill, though some contemporaries also mocked her for her activity.
