History

The Adelaide Polo Club was founded by William Horn in 1879 at Montefiore Hill in Adelaide, South Australia.[1][2] John Lancelot Stirling, a politician and grazier, also helped found the club.[3] He was an early captain of the club.[3]

On 16 April 1881, the club hosted its first match with other teams from the British Empire.[1] A crowd of 4,000 onlookers attended the match.[1] It took place at the Old Victoria Park Racecourse.[1] The club returned to its original location at Montefiore Hill, until it moved to new grounds at Birkalla, now known as Plympton, another suburb of Adelaide.[1]

Frank Hagger Downer (18 October 1863 – 19 March 1938), the son of Henry Edward Downer, was captain of the club at the time of his death in 1938.[4] Moreover, Sir Arthur Campbell Rymill, a lawyer and politician, was a member of the club.[5]

In 1960, the club moved to Waterloo Corner, another suburb of Adelaide.[1] In 2000, it moved to its current location in Mount Barker.[1]

It is a member of the South Australian Polo Association.[6]

gollark: Maybe, but it can have POST bodies.
gollark: - gpg is isomorphic to cryoapioform - it is already too late, as I just interfaced this with a JS engine and some HTML layouting stuff and am accessing my email through this; for now, I am using an SSH tunnel, but this is uncool, so security *is* required - additionally, normalizing protection of exactly which content you visit from eavesdroppers is good- it doesn't even have a Content-Length field- but I need to store arbitrarily large indices into metagollarious ultraspace
gollark: Where?
gollark: - lack of TLS, while ALL is to be utterly secured- no extensibility- what if I want to send 1025 bytes
gollark: I don't like this.
