Prior to joining Access Bank, Bajomo worked at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, leading the digitisation of its services and establishing a robust trading platform and ancillary ecosystem to drive market liquidity, automation, enhanced regulation, new product development, market data and revenue diversification.[1] He serves on the board of NASD Plc., a Nigerian-based OTC platform. He also chairs the Market-Wide Infrastructure and Technology sub-committee of the Nigerian Capital Market Committee. He worked at Barclays Bank PLC., where he led the Replatforming Business Transformation Programmes for Africa and Indian Ocean region. He has over 25 years of professional experience[2]

Early life and education

Ade Bajomo graduated with a B.Sc degree in Engineering from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. He holds an M.Sc degree with distinction in Information Systems from South Bank University, and an MBA from CASS Business School, City University London.[3] He is a chartered member of the British Computer Society and a Member of the Institute of Directors.

Financial Services Career

Mr. Ade Bajomo is currently the Executive Director for Information Technology and Operations at Access Bank Plc. He was the Executive Director of The Nigerian Stock Exchange for Market Operations and Technology, leading the operations and technology transformation of the leading Sub-Saharan African exchange as it repositioned it for growth and global leadership through effective exploitation of technology and efficient business and market operations processes.[1]

With a wealth of experience and track record in the global financial services sector spanning banking, capital markets, asset management and insurance, Mr. Bajomo has led major transformation and service improvement programmes and participated in business growth initiatives technology and operations integration of acquired entities in the sector.

Morgan Grenfell Asset Management: 1995 to 1997

Ade joined Morgan Grenfell Asset Management in 1995 as the Computing Manager responsible for the delivery of daily technology operations for the leading asset management firm, which was later acquired by Deutsche Bank. During the acquisition, he led the technical infrastructure team responsible for the design and implementation of the Wintel technologies for the new trading floor of the new Headquarters at London Wall in the City of London, as well as the technology consolidation and integration of both entities, working in a team of technical architects. [4]

Fortis Bank: 1997 to 2006

He moved to General Bank in 1997 as Head of Information Technology, driving the integration of eleven (11) entities acquired by Fortis Bank in the UK. He rose to the position of Information Technology Director at Fortis Bank UK in 2000.

At Fortis Bank, he was responsible to the technology delivery and operations of eleven (11) business lines, including Derivatives Clearing technology and Prime Brokerage Services in over 28 global exchanges and was part of the team that delivered one of the first screen based trading services following the closure of the London Stock Exchange trading floor. Working closely with the business lines, the technology team at Fortis contributed to the delivery of one of the lowest cost-income ratio (< 40%) achieved by an international bank operating in the UK at a time of rapid expansion, significant investment and business growth.

Phoenix Group Holdings: 2006 to 2007

He joined Pearl Insurance (now Phoenix Group Holdings) in 2006 to drive the technology consolidation and business process optimisation of what was the largest closed life pension outsourcing deal at the time to Tata Consulting Services as Head of Information Technology and Strategy.

Barclays Bank Plc: 2007 to 2011

Bajomo left for Barclays Bank Plc in 2007 to lead the business transformation programmes for the Africa and Indian Ocean region achieving the delivery of the technology consolidation, operational efficiencies and business growth and transformation plans for these entities with a globally focused team based in the UK, India, Singapore and across Africa.

Bajomo at The Nigerian Stock Exchange: 2011 to date

He joined the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2011 and with the wider team has achieved a number of transformative objectives for the Nigerian Capital Market, including the implementation of targeted 21st Century Technology Strategies, income diversification, improvements in market structure, and enhanced efficiency of operations and regulatory services.

At the Exchange, he led the digital transformation efforts of the market with the XGEN platform offering low latency trading on a highly scalable platform based on NASDAQ technology and using mobile technology to connect the Nigerian market to millions of investors whilst facilitating financial inclusion. The changes in market structure includes market making and securities lending. He commenced the income diversification strategy of the NSE in 2012 with the launch of XNET services, and insourced the Market Data business, transforming it into a profit making venture which now contributes 9% of revenue to the Exchange.[5]

In recent times Bajomo has been instrumental in diversifying the income streams of the Exchange, and in 2016, he led the first NSE Market Data Expo, first of its kind in West Africa, to increase awareness on the critical role of market data in making sound investment decisions on both the buy and sell sides.

Speaking Engagements

He speaks at various conferences and is a thought leader and avid proponent of growing the Nigerian capital market through enhanced efficiency, appropriate product and value proposition for all segments of the market, and in particular, the mass retail end, and the provision of wider market access to broaden both domestic and global participation and facilitate financial inclusion. He spoke at the 2015 and 2016 Building African Financial Market (BAFM) hosted by the JSE and NSE.
