Abraham Papali'i

Abraham Papali'i (born 20 June 1993) is a New Zealand rugby union player currently playing for the Bay of Plenty Steamers in the Mitre10 cup competition. He previously played for Waitakere in the Auckland mens competition and also represented Massey Rugby in the north harbour region in his early years after high school. He previously played rugby league as a second-row, lock and centre for Lézignan Sangliers in the Elite One Championship competition. After leaving France he went back to Auckland and played for the pt Chev pirates where he also managed to play a game for the Nz Warriors NSW cup team in reserve grade. He previously played for the Sydney Roosters in the NRL.

Background

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Papalii is of Samoan descent. He played his junior rugby league for the Glenora Bears and Pt Chevalier Pirates as well as rugby union for the Massey Rugby Club and North Harbour Rugby, before being signed by the New Zealand Warriors.

Playing career

Early career

In 2013, Papalii played for the New Zealand Warriors' NYC team,[2] before graduating to their New South Wales Cup team in 2014.[3] On 10 November 2014, he signed a 2-year contract with the Sydney Roosters starting in 2015.[4]

2016

In round 6 of the 2016 NRL season, Papalii made his NRL debut for the Roosters against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.[5][6] In November, he joined Lézignan Sangliers in the premier French Rugby League competition, Elite One Championship, linking up with former NRL and Super League player Ben Pomeroy.[7]
