Abdullahi Bala

Abdullahi Bala (born March 27, 1967) is a Nigerian academic, author and professor of soil science. He is the current and seventh substantive vice-chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna, a post he assumed in December 2017.[1][2]

Early life and education

Bala was born at Suleja, a local government area of Niger State, Northern Nigeria. He attended Dawaki Primary School at Suleja and Federal Government College, Minna, Niger State where he obtained the West African Senior School Certificate. Thereafter, he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc degree) in 1989 from the College of Basic Studies, at Ahmadu Bello University. He later studied at the University of Reading, United Kingdom where he earned a master's degree in Soil Chemistry, and at Wye College, University of London where he received a doctorate degree in Soil Microbiology.[3]

Bala has worked at a number of institutions including the Independent Policy Group, Abuja (2004-2007), and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Kano (2010-2012).[4]

Administration

Bala assumed office as the seventh vice chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna on December 3, 2017. He was a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics (2012) at the Federal University of Technology, Minna.[4] Bala promised in his inaugural speech that his administration will take decisions that are in the best interest of the University. He said the administration would be guided by three cardinal principles; obeying the status and laws of the university, good governance and best global practices.[5]
