Abdullah ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib

Abdullah ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (Arabic: عَبْد ٱللَّٰه ٱبْن عَلِيّ ٱبْن أَبِي طَالِب) is one of Ali's sons[1][2][3][4] who was killed in Karbala, and is considered among the martyrs of the Battle of Karbala.[5][6] Abdullah is also among the four sons of Umm al-Banin the daughter of Hazam.[7][8][9]

Battle of Karbala

It has been written by the historians about Abdullah ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib that at the day of Ashura, when the companions of Husayn ibn Ali and a group of his family martyred, Abbas recalled his brothers in the order of their age, and told them attack the battlefield; and Abdullah (ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib) was the first one who was recalled in order to fight Umar ibn Sa'd's army. Abbas said to him:[1][10]

"O my brother, you first go to the battle field, because you don't have child (to be sad of the kid(s). I want to see you to be killed in the way of Allah, and to be patient in your martyrdom."[1][10][11]

Afterwards, Abdullah went to the battlefield, recited epic verse(s), then he embarked striking with a sword, eventually someone whose name was Hani ibn Thabit attacked him and struck on his head and killed him,[1][10] at the age of twenty five.[12][13][14][15] His name has been mentioned in the Ziyarat al-Nahiya al-Muqaddasa as the killer of Abdullah and likewise by Ja'far ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib.[16][17]
