Aarti Tikoo Singh

Aarti Tikoo Singh is a secular Kashmiri Indian journalist[2], who was born in Jammu and Kashmir and is known for being vocal on the Kashmir conflict. She is an alumnus of University of Jammu and did Masters in International Affairs from[1]Columbia University in New York City. She is married to a Punjabi Sikh.

Career

As a reporter, she has worked in conflict zones across India such as Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Assam.[3][4]

After working with dailies in India such as Hindustan Times and as a Foreign and Security Affairs Editor at the agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), she is now currently an Senior Assistant Editor with The Times of India. Singh has over 18 years of experience in journalism, focusing on international relations and conflicts.[5][6] She reported from the state of Jammu and Kashmir [a conflict-ridden state] for almost seven years, covering politics, violence, governance and human stories. [7]

Personal Life

Singh was born in Anantnag town of Aanantag district]] in Jammu and Kashmir. After the Kashmiri Pandit exodus in early 1990s, she also went to Jammu. She studied in University of Jammu and also did Masters in International Affairs from New York’s Columbia University and starting her career she went to India and is currently residing in New Delhi.

Awards

Singh is a Times Aspire award winner and a WISCOMP (Women in Security, Conflict Management Peace) fellowship awardee.[5]
