Ember’s anthropomorphized bear family displays a wide range of emotions, and their surroundings will be comforting and familiar to almost any reader. Best of all, Nolan and Ember have managed to highlight Harvey’s gift while at the same time not belittling the gifts of the other children.

There's nothing new about this drawn-out story's best-gifts-come-from-the-heart message, but the art is cheerful and the drawing Harvey eventually makes may inspire similarly stymied gift-givers.
