Phraxlamps

Phraxlamps were lamps used in the Third Age of Flight to illuminate the phraxmines of the Eastern Woods, and were maintained by lamplighters, such as Nate Quarter. The lamps had to be calibrated to a twilight glow—every day, by lamplighters—or else mining stormphrax would become dangerous. If the lamps became too dim, the stormphrax crystals became heavier than ironwood and thus fell down on the heads of phraxminers. If they were too bright, the stormphrax crystals became explosive. Branxford Drew used a phraxlamp explosion to kill his father, Friston.
