Gart Ironside's sky-platform
Gart Ironside owned a sky-platform in the Farrow Ridges during the Third Age of Flight. He lived there for at least ten years after c. 609 ᴇ.ʏ.. He ran his business, Trade Goods – G. Ironside[1], from the platform, resupplying skytaverns as they passed along the scenic route between Great Glade and Hive.
Description
The platform was built atop a giant pillar, about twenty strides above the surrounding canopy of ironwood pines.[1]
History
Gart moved to the sky-platform in c. 609 ᴇ.ʏ. after 'the great swindle' bankrupted him. Over the next eight years, he worked there to pay off his debts, meeting very few people and never setting foot on the ground.[2]
In c. 617 ᴇ.ʏ. Cade Quarter jumped from the Xanth Filatine and landed in a nearby tree. Gart rescued him and brought him back to the platform using his phraxlighter, the Hoverworm.[3] After staying overnight, Gart offered to let him stay on the platform and help with the supplying of the ships, however Cade declined this offer. He did, however, accept a loan of some gear, including a phraxmusket, hooks and line, rope, a net, nails, wire, a lantern, a tarpaulin, fire-flints, a water pot, a hammer, a hacksaw, an axe and a spade. [4]
Some weeks later, Gart prepared to leave the platform, after stealing a huge jewel from the Water Caverns. He intended to sell the jewel and pay off his debts, enabling him to return to his old life in Great Glade.[5] However, he had a change of heart and returned it, and continued to live on the platform.[6]
