Fromp-fighting

The fight-master holding a fighting fromp

Fromp-fights popular were illegal events that took place in Undertown and Sanctaphrax during the First Age of Flight. Four fromps would fight to the death, and spectators would bet on the outcome. The fights were run by a fight-master, who also organised the betting[1]. In Sanctaphrax, fromp-fights took place on the 18th east steps of the Central Viaduct, along with other illegal gambling[2]. Betting on fromp-fights could become addictive, as was the case for Seftus Leprix, who made lots of money from it[1], and Arboretum Sicklebough, who lost most due to the addiction[3]. This led to him gathering debts he was unable to ever pay[4].

Fromps were trained using starvation and cruelty, until the normally affable creatures became ferocious killers. They were fitted with extra weaponry, such as ankle spurs and tail-spikes, to increase their killing efficiency.[1]
