Carrillon

Carrillon, also spelt carillon, was a popular game in the Third Age of Flight, similar to splinters. It was common in gambling dens in Hive and aboard skytaverns.[1][2]

Rules

Players collected pairs or runs of numbered chips and betted money that was placed on one side of a set of scales against a stakeweight. When the coins outweighed the weight, the scales would tip and a bell would ring, signalling the end of the game. At this point, players would show their hands and a winner would be decided. It took skill and judgement to predict the tipping point.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the real world, a carillon is a set of bells used to play a tune. They are usually placed in a tower atop a church or municipal building.[4] The game of carillon was likely inspired by this, which would explain the use of a bell to indicate when the game ends.
