screen resolution for extended monitor is not variable

0

I am using a DELL inspiron laptop and extended monitor with a 22" Samsung LED Monitor.OS- Windows 10 Pro version. I am using the same PC and Monitor for last 3 years. Yesterday morning, while I switched on the resolution of extended Samsung monitor is not similar to my laptop (1366 x 768). I checked Display settings, Screen 2 (Samsung Monitor) Resolution is disabled and unable to change it. I tried to reinstall diplay drive, but still it is same.

Does the 2nd extended monitor come up at all? Has this worked before your upgrade? Was there any events that occurred that might have triggered this to fail? Maybe an upgrade to Windows 10? – Dale – 2015-10-19T05:08:19.107

Yes, It was working till yesterday with same environment. i haven't upgraded or changed any settings on these days. But I have used laptop alone for few minutes while in travel (w/o connected with monitor) – Arun – 2015-10-19T05:29:56.557

Do you know if any updates have happened in-between those times. I'm looking for any clues of something that might have changed. Did you have automatic updates on and it updated Windows 10? – Dale – 2015-10-19T08:18:54.837

Yea. Automatic update is On. But I don't think any major updates activated in between. Meanwhile, I just tried toconnect my lap with another monitor, it worked fine. Then I changed my monitor.. still same effect. I hope the issue may be with my docking station. – Arun – 2015-10-19T11:32:18.360

Something you may want to try is to go into advanced settings and select the resolution and Hertz you want. Something that happened with my monitors is that Windows 10 liked to use 59 Hertz rather than 60 which caused some oddities to occur. Once you do select that resolution and Hertz of your choosing, you can select OK. Once you do , as usual, a pop up will come up asking if you want to keep these changes. If you don't reply, it will revert to the old settings. I'm assuming you probably know the settings of the previous resolution you had. – Dale – 2015-10-19T11:39:10.940
