ASUS N550JX-DS71T laptop (windows 8)
When laptop is plugged in to charge three very annoying and nearly work-stopping things occur: monitor brightness fluctuates, sound crescendos/decrescendos, and the external trackball/mouse does not work (can still use the touchpad without issue).
How do I get it to stop doing these things?
I am a graduate student in pharmacy school and do not have time for this kind of nonsense. My 5-year old Asus does not do this, and I'm about to fire it back up and use it instead. Any assistance is hugely appreciated!
For the fluctuating brightness, check if you have any video card utilities installed that might be causing it, like the kind that the manufacturers provide. I had a laptop with an ATI device that would fluctuate brightness and it turned out it was their Catalyst software utility doing some automatic brightness adjustment, which I was able to turn off. – user5071535 – 2015-08-21T22:42:56.670
If that is a newly acquired laptop (I assume it is), then get it back to the store and have them evaluate the power supply and/or the computer for malfunction w.r.t. the power supply or charging circuitry. – Hannu – 2015-08-22T19:39:57.200
