kde ubuntu 14.04 firefox and other app fonts too small

Question

I have checked the application fonts through the system settings app appearances menu and set all fonts to 16 and minimum of 14. no joy.

Set zoom out Firefox to ctrl+0 no joy. It isn't the content of the page that is small - it is the menu system. Same for other system apps.

I have trawled through various help forums but not found a solution that works.

can anyone offer some advice?

I found changing the dpi (dots per inch) in system settings did the trick. I set it to 110 instead of 96.
