11: That's not a laptop drive. 2: what ABOUT the power supply? get an adapter, they're much less complicated than the ide to sata conversion – Russell Uhl – 2015-03-31T17:10:16.847

I know it's not a laptop drive but I want to connect it to a laptop and I can't seem to find right adapter – Edgu – 2015-03-31T17:14:03.923

@whs I believe there is less expensive way to achieve what I want – Edgu – 2015-03-31T17:15:15.520

Even if your plan is to duct-tape the drive to the bottom of the laptop with the HD cover removed, I am fairly certain (but not 100% sure) that you cannot just plug the SATA power from the laptop HD bay into a 12v PATA adapter. – Yorik – 2015-03-31T18:33:23.263

@Yorik No that is not the plan, I have taken out the motherboard from laptop case so I don't need to duct tape anything I just need to connect this drive somehow... – Edgu – 2015-03-31T18:46:44.070

You will need a power supply from a desktop computer, do you have it? – ilkhd – 2015-03-31T20:33:12.527

the "more expencive" method linked by whs , is probably better than the "less expencive" methods I have tried to use with crappy PATA to SATA converter boards that were miserable failures, unfit to even be sold. soo make sure you see some reviews. after what i went though i would rather (and did) sell the patas to someone who could use them in something designed for them. Because they are not available new (much), good used ones could get you 1/2 way to a proper laptop sata one, and on your way. – Psycogeek – 2015-03-31T22:39:03.380
