I want to buy a laptop with Windows 8 with the German keyboard QWERTZ but i will only use it for English and Greek language. So, i will change the language from control panel to English and work like this. I don't care if Z and Y letters will physically appear the opposite, or if some other strange symbols will be on the keys.
What i really care about and want to clear is :
If i switch to english/greek language using the German keyboard QWERTZ, will all the keys work exactly the same as in a QWERTY keyboard? All the letters/shortcuts/symbols/shift-ctrl-alt combinations etc will work the same?
@duDE What is the same? You can give it as answer if you want – Dchris – 2015-02-05T14:23:14.093

@Tetsujin What if i use keyboard stickers? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/English-US-Standard-Non-transparent-Keyboard-Layout-Sticker-Replacement-3-Colors-/311095631512
– Dchris – 2015-02-05T15:00:25.767@Tetsujin What do you mean it will transmit? I mean if i put the stickers on the keys and have english language as my default language. – Dchris – 2015-02-05T15:08:07.123
@Tetsujin But i am going to do 2 changes. 1) put a Z sticker to Y and Y sticker to Z key and 2)most important, i will set the language to english, hence, it will recognize the QWERTY system. am i correct? – Dchris – 2015-02-05T15:28:00.327
1@Tetsujin If you switch the language over from a QWERTY to QWERTZ in the input options of Windows, the character produced will change. As an example, if I use this keyboard (that has "QWERTY" written on the first six keys to the right of tab) with the English (UK) layout and type the first six characters, I get "QWERTY". If I switch to the German (Germany) layout (same keyboard, just changed the language in Windows) I get "QWERTZ". Same physical keys pressed, different registered input. – Matt Champion – 2015-02-05T15:36:44.697
1oooh, so it does! Guess I'll be trashing some comments then ;) – Tetsujin – 2015-02-05T15:42:44.770
1@Tetsujin It took me a while to get used to myself, so no worries on that front! – Matt Champion – 2015-02-05T15:50:12.537
1Rather than use ugly-looking stickers, you should be able to physically swap the Y and Z keycaps. – nekomatic – 2015-02-06T09:26:54.327
@nekomatic Yes, good point. But it's not the Y/Z issue only. It's also the different name of CTRL button, some German special letters and special characters placed differently – Dchris – 2015-02-06T09:57:12.630
Why don't you just buy a laptop with a us keyboard layout? Or buy a english layout usb keyboard? A full size external keyboard is much more confortable to type on. – DavidPostill – 2015-02-11T11:50:18.413
