Reinstalling linux without Re-Encrypting

0

I kinda crashed my system today by apt-get removing sensitive libraries with dependencies (for example pre-installed gnome-core and iceweasel were removed too)...

I could successfully restore most of the applications but not all and also my system interacts kinda wierd since.... (what isn't suprising I think now after having ~200 apps and libraries unconfigured)

I am really not interested in formating my partition and than encrypting it again (last time it took 27 hours) because I use my laptop daily for university, currently also on the weekends!

So my question is, is there a option of keeping the current encryption but rebuilding the linux???

Afaik there is none but I would've like to ask some other people befor jumping into 27hour without my laptop!

How exactly is your system doing encryption? There are several methods. What Linux distribution do you use? One thing to consider, since your system was already encrypted you could just do a standard re-install including rebuilding the crypto, just make sure you skip the step to encrypt the entire drive. Since your system was already encrypted re-encrypting all that free space that would be pointless. – Zoredache – 2014-10-22T19:03:25.317

I'm using Kali 3.14 and I selected the full partition encryption while install! (I don't know what kinda encryption method that is) – Velvetto Warrioror – 2014-10-22T19:16:51.770
