Why is the windows 7 AeroPeek alt+tab fix not working on this machine?

0

This is a challenging problem requiring help at the level of a Windows GURU. Basically, I want win-XP like alt+tab behavior in my win-7 machine. Have a look at this previous discussion (and as a newbie to this forum, I will try my best to improve the clarity of my description) at this link link from where the excerpt below is especially lucid but the solutions discussed in that post do not seem to work or do anything for me.

Is there a way to customize the Windows 7 Alt-Tab user experience? Ideally I’d like to >return to

Not switching to the application until I release both keys (Windows 7 changes to the application as you alt-tab through)

Showing Icons instead of screenshots in the alt tab overlay

I bought this Win7 Pro machine. I have the same alt-tab problem that it goes to the window upon releasing tab while alt is still pressed. This is not happening on another win7 home edition machine I got earlier from dell. I have done search over the internet and this forum and applied the solution 3 ways.

(1) using Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance and unchecking AeroPeek

(2) using the utility

Alt+Tab Tuner - tweak settings of Alt+Tab dialog in Windows7 from winaero.com, alttabtuner.zip

(3) using regedit.exe ie

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer value AltTabSettings: 0 - preview 1 - "old-style" (icons only)

Apparently, whether I set the key to 0 or 1, it does not have any effect. Needless to say, I have tried restarting explorer in case 2 and in other cases, logging off or rebooting as well for completeness but this seems unnecessary for win7.

I am getting into depression as a result of the fact that none of these work.

If you have any diagnostic questions, I will be very glad to reply.

In this link the same problem as mine is discussed but their solution does not seem to work for me. It would help a lot to read the post at link</br> and then note these parts Is there a way to customize the Windows 7 Alt-Tab user experience? Ideally I’d like to return to

You act like I was suppose to know what you were talking about. Your question does not and didn't not contain a link to another question. A question should contain ALL relevant information within it. I strongly suggest you clarify your question itself. Your comments are great to fill in the blank, now, clarify your question. – Ramhound – 2014-09-23T03:24:34.503

Thanks. I edited the top question post and put all the info there where it needs to go. Sorry, I am a newbie and would try my best to be the clearest possible. – sassan – 2014-09-23T18:30:38.483
