RS232-> convert to usb format and store to jump drive or other usb connected memory

0

I work with older (pre1997) machine tools. They use a RS232 port to transfer data to and from the machine. I would like to convert these serial signals into a USB format and store them on a jump drive. I know that there are probably programmable chips that have this function or perhaps pre engineered boards that do this. I just don't know where to find them or what that convert and store function is called.

it's unclear what you are trying to do. RS232 ports stream data much like a USB port. For converters google "RS232 to USB". If you are trying to plug a jump drive into an RS232 device, the converter might maybe work, or then again it probably won't either. – Tyson – 2014-09-08T14:11:30.137

The functionality you seek may not exist as a single USB gadget. You are looking for a RS-232 data logger. The converter you seek does not exist; it is impossible to convert RS-232 into USB signals for direct use by a USB storage device. The RS-232 data has to be saved as a file.
