I have connected a tv via HDMI to a laptop running ubuntu 12. I can see the video on the televsion but the sound plays from the laptop and not from the television. Any ideas on what I need to change (I checked the sound settings on my laptop and was not sure if I had to turn anything off or on). Any ideas on what I need to modify to make this work (the sound for the television is not set to mute).
I did not find any settings in particular for HDMI output in the sound settings (the output settings has the volume turned on - I tried by turning it off as well but it did not change anything).
thanks in advance

I need to figure out how to configure my ubuntu v12 or possibly television set to get the televison audio working with the HDMI input – ali haider – 2014-09-01T16:01:37.547
Yes, but read the link carefully, one of the comments is "As a caveat, remember to change the sound output in ubuntu's sound control panel. In my experience, it doesn't switch over to sound via HDMI automatically, but it does WORK" – DavidPostill – 2014-09-01T16:24:22.487
yes I did that already (as in read that) - and that "answer" does not provide enough details. I went through the sound settings but most likely missed something. Instead of pointing at other "answers", I would appreciate answers. – ali haider – 2014-09-01T16:48:30.573
