Hard drive no longer works in Windows works fine in Linux

I have a Western Digital WD1002FAEX 1TB hard drive which was installed in an external drive enclosure. The enclosure held two hard drives. The other is another WD 500GB. The 1TB drive was used as redundant data for an XP PC. Some time ago the 1TB drive stopped showing up in Windows Explorer.

Removed from the enclosure and connected to directly to another newer computer running Windows Vista it still did not appear. The Windows Vista PC is also running Ubuntu. There is a bay for swapping SATA drives and the boot drive is changed based on the O/S being run. No other hardware is changed. No BIOS settings are changed. In Ubuntu the 1TB WD drive drive appears and seems to work perfectly. What happened to the drive that it is no longer usable in Windows?

What do you mean it did not work? – Ruslan Gerasimov – 2014-07-07T05:32:06.740

Seems like an issue with drivers accessing the USB drive. Microsoft has provider an automated troubleshooter to fix such drive issues in Windows, please try this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-vista/tips-for-solving-problems-with-usb-devices
