Broken internet connection

I have a problem with my internet connection. Last night everything worked just fine, but when I woke up my wireless connection showed "limited" connection. I didn't change any settings, no updates were installed or any programs in the meantime. I checked my router and the light for internet connection is on, but I can't access internet.

I started the troubleshoot and it said "The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.". I checked all cables, everything is fine. Tried to access internet directly through modem with ethernet cable and it worked. I did a reset on my wireless router but nothing changed.

When I connect to wireless router I am unable to open 192.168.1.1 (modem interface) but the router still has light for internet connection turned on so I am a bit puzzled. I am able to open 192.168.0.1 (wireless router interface). I have set obtaining IP address to automatic, DNS servers too. Proxy is turned off. I use TP-LINK WR740n wireless router and TP-LINK TD-8816 modem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any other network adapters? Say, any virtual network adapters created by virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation? If you do, disable them temporarily and try again. If that fails, try resetting your WiFi connection. If that also doesn't work, try setting the metric of your WiFi connection manually to a value lower than that of the wired, Ethernet connection.

Also, on TP-LINK routers, you can access the router configuration using the URL: http://tplinklogin.net

I don't use any virtual network adapters. Also, i tried reseting WiFi and setting metric of connection manually. Nothing worked... – user3476085 – 2014-03-30T07:23:53.963

It's possible that some software program is interfering with your wireless connection. Do you have any antivirus or firewall programs installed? Disable them temporarily and see if you connect. – Vinayak – 2014-03-30T07:35:28.827

I have 2 laptops, both were connected to the wireless router and at the same time they lost connection so I doubt it is any program. I use (I know, I'll burn in Hell) Microsoft Defender under x64 Windows 8 operating system. The problem is probably something about router... – user3476085 – 2014-03-30T14:57:05.680

I tried disabling DHCP on my wireless router and connecting both modem and my laptop to LAN ports on my wireless router. This way I am able to acquire internet access so I guess the problem is something with wireless part of the router. Any thoughts about that? – user3476085 – 2014-03-30T15:19:12.113

I took the router to the store, they will fix it. I have no time for this right now... Thank you a lot for trying to help me, you are awesome. :) – user3476085 – 2014-03-30T21:04:29.890

You're welcome. I hope that fixes your connectivity problems. – Vinayak – 2014-03-30T21:37:09.090
