Its on my laptop so i'd prefer not to have to replace the drive, is there anything i can do to speed things up?

@Ramhound it's not an SSD, it's a HDD, as stated in the post.

You can defrag, but unless things are seriously fragmented it is only going to be a small boost. A 240/256GB or 480/512gb SSD will make your laptop scream way faster than any tweaks. – cybernard – 2013-08-27T22:19:33.390
