What is the difference between Samsung's ExpressCache Technology and Intel's Rapid Storage Technology? From the very little I understand about computer hardware, it seems that they both use a small SSD to give the computer a speed boost, and then store the main files on an HDD. And some sort of caching goes on to make things work better than simply installing the OS on the SSD.
EDIT: So, it seems that I accidentally wrote Rapid Storage Technology instead of Smart Response Technology. But since the answers referring to RST have been very good, I'm going to pretend that the original question asked about both.
1"ExpressCache is a tiered caching solution which utilizes DRAM as another tier of very access to frequently used data block." So does Windows. If your system supports IRST, just use that. ExpressCache isn't really needed. – Jamie Hanrahan – 2015-08-27T03:10:13.433
