How can I configure the amount of cached data Chrome has?

After days without closing Chrome and tons of tabs opened, I have noted that Chrome delays page load and I often see a "Waiting for cache..." message or something like that in the status bar.

So, I think that the problem could be too much cache data. When I close the browser and open it again WITH THE SAME TABS, things go smooth, so I assume that my performance issues could be related to cache data, that are maybe deleted upon closing the browser.

How can I control the amount of data that chrome stores in its cache?
