Opening up a .tar file on Windows

What Windows tool or program can I use to open a .tar file? I also have .tar.gz files that I would like to open.

Try 7-zip.

Winzip should also do the job fine

winzip costs money for the full version – falter – 2009-10-05T09:52:49.380

I prefer WinRAR. It uses up less RAM. Look here for a face-off between WinRAR and 7-zip.
