Running Linux on Old PC

I currently have with me installed Windows XP. It works fine, it's just that I have only Pentium 4 and 496MB of ram With a speed of 2.27 GHz so opening all the programs for awhile makes the PC slow and it doesn't help my productivity. I just installed Ubuntu (latest one) but it was a disappointment, Windows XP ran better than Ubuntu. What are a good list of linux operating systems which has a graphical interface? I only use these programs:

  • xchat
  • google chrome
  • sublime text editor
  • wamp
  • git bash

@slhck that first one is merged to a deleted question :\ – Bob – 2012-05-29T11:05:06.277

Welcome to Super User, by the way! Asking for a list of recommendations is not considered constructive and therefore off-topic. Please check questions that have already been asked on that subject, and do a little research yourself. There are plenty of lightweight Linux distributions available. – slhck – 2012-05-29T11:05:20.893

@Bob I know, just happened to see it, it's what the duplicate box suggested, that's why I added the other links too. – slhck – 2012-05-29T11:05:55.433
