Spotlight and all contents on desktop disappeared in OS X

My Spotlight disappeared and I can't find it or get it back. Where is it and how should I make it come back? And when I do, all my folders disapeared from my desktop along with my hard drive. Does this mean they are gone forever and if not where did they go?
