I've been using this computer, hardware and software, wihtout any problems occusring since about 6 months.
Today, after having to press the reset button because of an ATI driver crash, I got a BIOS error message on startup:
Overclocking failed!
It asked me either to enter new settings myself, or reset to the defaults, which I did.
Now everything seems to work as usual, but: The CPU fan is constantly at 5000 RPM, while Cool N Quiet still works and the CPU is underclocked from 3400 mhz to 800 mhz (Checked in Everest) The CPU temperature right now is at 38° celsius, 45° on the motherboard
- How do I get my CPU fan to stop spinning so fast in idle?

2If you don't see any helpful BIOS settings for this, maybe look to see if there's been a new version of that board's BIOS firmware released - check the changelog and see if this is something they had to address. – James T Snell – 2011-07-18T15:12:43.763
Silly question - does the fan ACTUALLY seem to be spinning that fast? It could be reporting the speed wrong. – Shinrai – 2011-07-18T15:19:44.043
@Shinrai: I really don't see how your attitude is APPROPRIATE. I have extreme noise problems with the fan now, imagine 5000 RPM on a small stock CPU fan... That's why I am asking – Lanthan – 2011-07-18T15:22:04.947
3@Lanthan - There's no attitude. I'm just pointing out that maybe the reading of 5000 isn't actually correct and was asking if you'd visually verified this. You didn't say that it was making noise, and it's not especially hot. Your question was "How do I slow it down?", my response was "Well, maybe it's not actually going that fast (in which case we'll need to figure out why)."
