Tone Controls not Working on HP HDX16

0

I have an HP HDX16 laptop; the tone control buttons at the top of the keyboard work, they change the volume and the indicator bar on the screen appears when you press them. But the speaker button itself stays orange even when the speakers are on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SmartMenu, QuickLaunch buttons, and ToneControl. Any ideas?

Try to update your drivers. Go to Driver Manager, and select those for your speakers, and buttons.

If your laptop came with any CDs that contained software (like ToneControl, or any other software related to your laptop, try re-installing them).

If none of the above works, try to restore your computer, (using System Restore) to a time when everything worked.

If worst comes to worst, reinstall Windows.

Drivers are up to date, and I've done System Restores to several different times; but no luck. – Teknophilia – 2011-05-23T16:24:20.667

Only other thing I could say would be to uninstall any/all new software, and wipe your OS. I'm sorry. – wizlog – 2011-05-24T03:53:05.000

Actually, try running an operating system like Ubuntu (it doesn't require installation to run). If your tone controls still don't work, then they only other option would be to wipe your OS. – wizlog – 2011-05-24T03:54:28.760

Also, ensure that you haven't changed any start-up programs or services. The service/process that this requires may not be running. Run msconfig. – wizlog – 2011-05-24T03:56:35.547
