With vista and xp I always had problems installing their respective 64 bits versions, and always had to format and install them in 32 bits.
Problems like incompatibility with other programs, the system hangs, etc.
Tonight I will be installing windows 7 on my notebook, and I am faced with the choice again.
Has someone tried win 7 in 64 bits? Would you recommend it over the 32 bits version?
2If you don't need more than 3GB of RAM, then you probably don't need a 64-bit OS. That said, if you don't have any incompatible software/drivers, you won't notice a different, so why not? – Sasha Chedygov – 2009-08-07T19:36:49.277
1Been using 64-bit 7 through beta/RC/and, as of this morning, RTM and loving it. Yes, I would recommend it over 32-bit, but only because I have 8 GB of RAM in this machine. As musicfreak said, if you don't have more than 3 GB, and don't intend to add more in the near future, you might as well stick with the 32-bit version. – raven – 2009-08-07T19:46:26.820
