HP Envy x360 - Will not wake up after suspend/sleep/idle

0

I have this weird issue where my HP Laptop will not wake up after sleep or suspend. It doesn't make a difference if it is on AC power or battery. The power LED is on and HDD LED blinks some times. I can hear the fan and HDD running. When I left the laptop overnight in that state, it got discharged since the CPU fan was rotating.

I've seen some mentions of this issue across the web and tried almost all solutions. I'll list the solutions I've tried below:

  • Restore windows 10 from HP recovery disk after wiping HDD
  • Install a different OS (Ubuntu)
  • Install fresh Windows 10 from downloaded ISO image from MS, and install drivers from HP download page
  • Install different graphics drivers downloaded from manufacturer's web site
  • Some Ubuntu solutions like using lightdm instead of gdm3, adding noveau something in grub file
  • I've opened the back of the laptop and checked that all connections are secure and cleaned some dust (very minimal).

At this point, I am not sure what I can do since the laptop is out of warranty. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I am thinking of removing the HDD and installing a NVME M2 SSD, will that help, or should I save that money and invest in a different laptop

Check the Power Options in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Take a look at the tips concerning the same issue on this Microsoft Forum page. An NVMe SSD will improve the performance of your notebook, so it's a good idea.
