How "Deleted" messages could come back?

The manager sent by accident a sensitive e-mail to the wrong group inside the organisation.

He asked me if I can delete it from the mailboxes of recipients before they read it. (It happenned in the evening so it seemed possible) Probably there are better solutions but the one I chose should work also.I logged (as admin) in Exchange 2010 server. And did the following

1) Provided myself (as user) full permission to the mailbox of recipient 2) After the mailbox appeared in my Outlook deleted the message in question 3) Withdrew the full permission

And so 5 times with each of 5 recipients. After that I reported that the problem is solved.

The only point is that (after I did it all) my own Outlook 2010 crashed and I had to close it with the task manager. The restarting lasted very long and couple of time I has to restart it again. But finally it started and I thought it's done.

To my big unpleasant surprise all mails I "deleted" somehow remained in the inboxes of recipients. And they could read it next morning. :(

Maybe somebody can explain how could it happen and why it didn't work?

Unless you are an admin of the exchange server you cannot delete them. – Moab – 2020-01-31T22:23:01.570
