Headset mic stopped being detected on reboot, says "not plugged in"

0

(Windows 7) I have a Logitech G231 headset (3.5mm) that's plugged into my speaker's headphone jack (which, in turn, plugs into the green audio-out jack on the rear panel of my PC). It's been working great for the past 8 months. I rebooted today, and now the mic won't work. No new updates (though I rolled back the windows update from last week, just to be sure). The audio still comes through the headset, but (as the mic is no longer detected in Windows) the mic doesn't work.

Things I've tried:

  • Plugged the headset into another computer. Everything works great there, so it's not a hardware issue.
  • Plugged the headset directly into the rear panel. No change; audio comes through fine, no mic detected.
  • Update Realtek drivers.
  • Rollback Realtek drivers.
  • Uninstall Realtek drivers and install the original ones that came with my motherboard.
  • Windows Troubleshooting.
  • Rollback all recent Windows updates.
  • Screw with every combination of setting on the Realtek HD Audio Manager panel.
  • Disconnect my webcam.

No matter what I do, the microphone is still "not plugged in": Audio Recording Panel

I don't know what else to try.

Hello there. What does the Realtek software do when you plug the microphone cable? – Natsu Kage – 2020-01-27T09:33:43.297

@NatsuKage It does absolutely nothing. I can plug the headset into the speaker's headset jack, directly into the green line out, or into the pink mic in, and Realtek won't recognize a working microphone. – Unplugged – 2020-01-27T15:58:47.680

Just to confirm, you are using the pc splitter, right? I see nothing about the pink wire in your post. – Natsu Kage – 2020-01-27T18:23:39.930

@NatsuKage So, here's the thing that might make me close this post: No, I'm not using a splitter. After sleeping on it and deciding that it just doesn't make any sense, I think in fact the microphone has never worked for the past eight months and, despite having daily meetings, no one ever told me. That seems more likely than the alternative. – Unplugged – 2020-01-27T20:30:02.917

Haha...you need a splitter for this headset on the pc. It usually comes with the headset when you buy it. https://i.imgur.com/fFNgK5w.jpg PCs have a seperate mic and headphone output.
