Chrome Remote Desktop setup for the remote client?

I'm almost afraid to ask this dumb question, surely I'm missing something obvious and dead simple. But I just cannot figure out how to connect a remote machine to my PC. Scenario is that I have a friend in another city, and I'd like to give him the opportunity to view my desktop in real time.

Assuming CRDT install & config is done independently on both machines, how do the two machines then establish a connection with each other? After all, despite the fact that the software is installed on both machines, neither machine is aware of the existence of the other machine.

I've read the docs, I've googled it, no obvious answers. What am I missing?
