Prevent Google Earth from zooming to full size of the map I load

Question

I'm loading a large set of map data in Google Earth. When I open the .kmz Google Earth zooms to a level to show the whole map. My computer works fine when I'm looking at the map contents on a small scale but becomes choppy when I'm viewing it at the full-scale and it takes me a few minutes before I can zoom back into the fine-scale. Is there a way to prevent Google Earth from zooming to the full-scale level when I load the data?
