Cortana starts being slow and laggy after launch of the UFT (Unified Functional Testing) application

whenever I open UFT, Cortana starts taking up huge amounts of CPU and trying to interact with the Start Menu or use the search bar becomes very slow and laggy.

to fix this, I need to log off and back in or reboot. Which, to me, means that UFT launches a service or a process or something that conflicts with Cortana.

How can I find whatever causes this conflict with Cortana?
