Can a Windows wim image only be applied to a device with the exact same specifications?

I've created a .wim image for a Windows 10 device with the following hardware specifications:

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 6 tablet
  • Core i5 8350U / 1.7 GHz
  • Windows 10 Pro
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 128 GB NVMe SSD
  • 12.3" touchscreen 2736 x 1824 - UHD Graphics 620 -
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth - platinum

Can that .wim image be applied to a device with different hardware specifications? For example, Can that .wim image be applied to the following device specification which has a larger SSD drive (256 GB), but is otherwise similar, or would there be issues with drivers, etc. trying to apply the image to a device of different Hardware specifications, which I assume would have different drivers for the larger/different SSD?

1If this is just the SSD drive.. it will TOTALLY work. PERIOD. You will have unused space left on the drive that you will either need to resize the existing partition to fill or create another partition to fill the space. If it isn't just the SSD drive, it will *propbably* work. Windows will boot and reload the correct drivers for the new hardware. – Señor CMasMas – 2019-10-17T17:16:42.120

Yes and No. did you sysprep the machine properly as described here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/capture-and-apply-windows-using-a-single-wim.
