How do you make Mozilla Thunderbird delete emails when they are moved between Gmail accounts?

How do you make Mozilla Thunderbird delete emails after they are moved from one Gmail account to another? The default option seems to be to archive moved messages, so they continue to exist in both inboxes - hardly what "move" means in the computer world.

I am getting around this limitation by creating two separate labels: "to move" and "to delete" and moving in two steps but would prefer a solution that would not involve this kind of manual labor.
