Whenever I play .mkv files on VLC (v. 3.0.8) the picture is very hazy/blurry. I have tried a few of the settings commonly available on the internet, but they are hard to follow mainly due to be being written for older version of VLC; I sometimes can't find the exact setting as described, and when I do nothing really changes.
I've recently installed a codec pack for .mkv and played the file using WMP and it was fine i.e. the quality of the file allows for the sharp, fine image I'm seeking. Same happens when I stream from VLC to chromecast, the image is sharp and satisfying. Problem is neither WMP nor streaming are always convenient, and I'd like to get good ol' VLC to play these files properly.
Here's a side-by-side of VLC and WMP.
Any thoughts?
mkv is just a container. Your problem is with a specific codec of the video stream inside. The reason WMP worked to your satisfaction is because it's using the system wide codecs you installed whereas VLC isn't, it uses by default its own set of codecs. – None – 2019-10-04T13:31:44.880
@GabrielaGarcia here's the codec information link if that helps. Can this be modified on VLC for a better image?
