If I create a new string value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons, then how can I tell Windows that I want to change the icon for say the shortcut overlay which is number 29, because there is a 29 in both imageres.dll and shell32.dll?
What if I want to use my customised icon for the Control Panel, which is number 23 in imageres.dll and numbers 21 & 207 in shell32.dll? How should I go about it?
