remote desktop connection: what I get is not what I type

Question

I use Remote Desktop Connection over wifi to connect to another computer. Everything works fine until I open "Settings" and try to type a string into the search box. Nothing gets typed as if the keyboard isn't there. Then, when I go to any other problem, Firefox, for example, and try to type a string for search, what I get is not what I type. If I type "aa", something other than "aa" is shown on screen.

The way I solve the problem is disconnect the session and re-connect. Then, I get my keyboard back until the next time I try to search something in Settings.

Anyway to get the keyboard back without terminating the session?
