Is there a way to force bootcamp to boot up in macOS via the windows registry or command line?

It's like this: I have inadvertently uninstalled the pre-existing AHCI(?) sata driver while trying to update the same so that windows could recognise the new 2TB sata SSD I just stuck in there (literally too, with glue).

Unfortunately, this didn't go quite as well as planned and now I'M SCREWED! I am back to command line access only and my MS-DOS skills are rusty. I do know enough to know that all is not lost however.

  • No there is no windows restore point, so don't ask. *I've been trying to manage my main computer with only 256GB and needless to say it has been hard, so space was at a premium and ... well you know how it is. It probably wouldn't even work anyway at this point anyway. It doesn't seem to be recognising a windows image recovery file either (via USB). So I don't know.*

  • There is no windows safe mode option, it doesn't load, so please don't ask about that either...

Of course my magical data is still there, although it is rather hard to access! I have some backups (but not super recent ones). So I won't be reformatting anything just yet.

It would be nice to just load the rotten apple part that I never use and copy my data onto the spare 2TB so there is at least one safeguard in place. And onto another USB stick for good measure.

Of course I can't see the mac partition in windows, whatever. But it would be nice to be able to be able to at least boot into apple so I can grab all my files (without getting xcopy errors 'cause the pathnames are too long (or whatever!). I am not nerdy enough to care about these inaccuracies anymore.

  • No holding down the apple/command key thing on my non-mac keyboard doesn't seem to be working, it hasn't worked for a while.

After all this, somehow I need to either load the bootcamp sata driver and mod the registry OR reinstall windows.

I can't believe this all came about due to simply wanting to install a bigger hardrive. Here's a video on instagram (with apple rant in the desription field) for youse anyways: https://www.instagram.com/p/B1ikJ-NnSwg/

I kinda knew something like this would happen sooner or later. I highly doubt I'll be buying another apple. So there you go.

Opt [alt] key should give you the boot loader where you can choose macOS. If it's formatted APFS then Windows can't see it at all to change that from inside Windows itself. tbh I don't understand most of the rest of your question. – Tetsujin – 2019-08-25T10:32:12.807

not to worry, I now have access to mac partition. – Doc Brown – 2019-08-25T10:57:18.077
