macOS connecting to xrdp on Ubuntu: How to get square brackets, backslash and at-symbol on german locale?

0

I have a server running Ubuntu 18.04, xrdp and xfce window manager. When I connect from a Windows Client, everything works as expected.

Now I want to connect to the same host from my MacBook using the Microsoft Remote Desktop App. After connecting, the server determines correctly, that I am using a german keyboard. Typing umlauts (äöü) works as expected. But any special character, where the alt key is used, does not work. These include [, ], {, }, @, \

On my MacBook the keys are:

  • [ -> alt + 5
  • ] -> alt + 6
  • { -> alt + 7
  • } -> alt + 8
  • @ -> alt + L
  • \ -> alt + shift + 7

How do I get those on my remote computer?

Things I already did:

  • I verified that the keymap 0407 (german) is used. Works on Windows client
  • I tried the Ctrl + Alt + Q which gives you an @ on Windows/Linux with no success.
