Soundcard microphone suddenly stops working for no reason

0

A couple of months ago I bought a Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1 Sound card to improve my sound quality for gaming.

It works great with everything except with my microphone. I'm using a ModMic plugged into the Aux input. The mic seems to work without any problems but every now and then it randomly stops working and shows completely no error whatsoever.

In the sound settings in windows, it shows up like every other device connected but the volume indicator doesn't move when talking for instance.

A way to fix it temporarily is by simply right-clicking the microphone, disabling it and then enable it again. That works for a couple of hours (sometimes just minutes) but then the same problem happens again.

I've contacted the support already, they couldn't really help me out since they only proposed standard fixes like reinstalling the drivers as if I hadn't tried that yet.

What I've tried so far:

  • Completly wiping and reinstalling drivers and device firmware (even offline and in safe mode).
  • Using a different mic plugged into the sound card
  • Replaced the sound card with a new one (I thought it was a hardware problem at first)
  • Made sure Windows was configured properly (Allow apps to access your microphone for instance)
  • Ran the Windows troubleshooter
  • Ran a thousand virus and HDD scans (chkdsk, sfc, etc) to make sure windows is not the problem.

The only suspicious thing I found out so far:

  • The device has that strange warning in the device manager / event viewer: Device not migrated Device {ID} was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match. otherwise, I couldn't find any warnings/errors regarding the device.

I appreciate all the help!
