Can’t cast local media from macOS to Chromecast

0

I'm unable to cast any local media from my MacBooks to my Chromecast. The problem persists across different casting apps such as VLC, Videostream and Airflow.

The Chromecast is detected and connects without any problems, but the process gets stuck at the "loading content" dialog, and the media never shows up.

I've been able to cast local media until about six months ago, which makes me think that the issue is connected to the Mojave update. Some apps give me a firewall error, but I suspect some sort of issue with file permissions.

Both of the MacBooks are running macOS version 10.14.4, and my Chromecast is updated to the latest firmware.

I'm able to cast from online sources such as Netflix, and casting Chrome tabs work fine too. Other devices using the same Wi-Fi can cast local content. The problem persists when changing the Wi-Fi/router.

To add to the confusion, I can cast local media via Chrome using the Ctrl+O method, which lets Chrome open and play the media directly. But I think that that's another version of tab casting, so not a direct stream from the harddisk.
