Chrome Cast Overheats When Using Sound Splitter to Projector/Speaker

Question

Using a splitter (Cingk 4K HDMI Audio Extractor) to connect my chrome cast audio to a speaker and video to a projector. The chrome cast gets insanely hot after 10-20 minutes of casting and eventually reboots itself -- after each reboot/recast it goes blank again after just a couple minutes. I have a feeling the rebooting is happening because the chrome cast gets so hot but my question is why is that happening?

I'm using the same chrome cast and connecting it directly to a TV and the rebooting/overheating doesn't happen. Only when connected to the splitter it heats up. Any suggestions? It is the splitter? They are expensive so I'm hesitant to get another one unless someone else has also had this issue with the Cingk model.
