Google Maps: Convert saved places into simple list without pictures

0

My Android phone has Google Maps installed. This is mostly very good but a recent update changed the functionality of the Your places saved lists.

Previously, the list was simple with just the address/postcode. From memory, there were probably about 5-6 places listed per screen and it was fast.

With the latest update, the list is chunky beyond reason! There's a large image attached to each address and only one place can be viewed per page. Moreover, if you're offline, as I frequently am, the list goes from very slow to painfully slow.

There does not appear to be any option to remove the pictures and make the list simple. The only option on each saved place is Remove place. The only options on the list itself are Hide on your map and Edit list.

Is it possible to stop Google Maps retrieving additional information (or updating that information!) about my places, such as chunky pictures?

This is off-topic for SU, but I'm not sure which is the right site for it. As a web app, Google Maps would be on-topic at Web Apps. As an Android app, it might be on-topic at Android (not sure whether Web Apps covers Android). – fixer1234 – 2019-06-26T16:23:46.100

@fixer1234: By off-topic do you mean there is no option for this (and the only way to achieve this is for Google themselves to update the app)? If that is the case, surely that's just the answer: "Sorry, Google have foced you to have chunky images and there is no way to change this setting". – AlainD – 2019-06-26T16:57:34.237

By off-topic, I meant that Android hardware and applications, and web applications, are all explicitly off-topic at Super User per the site definitions. Google Maps is a web application, and you're accessing it on an Android device using a mobile interface. It should be on-topic at Web Apps if they allow Android questions, or at Android if they allow web app questions, but you would need to check the posting guidance at those sites to verify. – fixer1234 – 2019-06-26T17:14:11.653
